Capital’s Heritage Hotel Noor-Us-Sabah Unveils Expansion Plans

Bhopal: Set in the heart of Bhopal’s royal enclave on the banks of the scenic Upper Lake, the Noor-us-Sabah palace is a fine specimen of Anglo-Islamic architecture. Built in the 1920s by the last ruler of the erstwhile Bhopal State H.H. Nawab Hamidullah Khan for his daughter, Heir Apparent Nawabzadi Abida Sultan Begum, the lush green gardens and the understated opulence of the palace are reminiscent of an era gone by.

Standing in the midst of a fine neighbourhood, the Noor-us-Sabah is flanked by the Ahmadabad Palace, the Al-Misbah Palace, the Flag Staff House and the magnificent Sufia Masjid, which were all built as part of the Ahmadabad palace complex.

Like many other buildings belonging to that era, the Noor-Us-Sabah too stood witness to the passage of time and several changes that marked the political landscape of the country, and saw Bhopal leap from being a Principality in Central India to acquire the status of the capital city of Madhya Pradesh.

The merger of the Bhopal State into the Union of India and its subsequent nomination as the capital city brought sweeping changes to Bhopal, as it slowly built a synthesis between its past and present and emerged as one of the most cosmopolitan cities in Central India.

With the State of Madhya Pradesh making fast progress on the economic map of the country, the Noor-Us-Sabah Palace was restored to its original opulence and the fine residential palace opened its doors to the world as a Heritage Hotel in the year 1997.

As part of the prestigious Welcome Heritage, the Noor-Us-Sabah holds a pride of place among the 40 finest Heritage Hotels in the country. Welcome Heritage, one of the leading Hotel brands in India is a joint venture between ITC Hotels Limited and Maharaja Gaj Singh of Jodhpur.

Originally built with 56 rooms, the Hotel has now embarked on an ambitious expansion plan to add 100 world class rooms including 20 luxury suites, a large ‘state of art’ gymnasium, a conference hall, commercial spaces and multilevel parking.
The expansion project, which would be carried out under the experienced eye of eminent architect Hafiz Contractor, is scheduled for completion in 32 months time.
