Pak Army Enter Main Taliban Town, Kills 17

In what could be described as latest phase of the offensive, the Pakistan military has entered into main Taliban town in the Swat Valley and clashed with the ruthless militants, said military.

According to the militarly, at least 17 militants have been killed in the clashes in Mingora.

This latest phase of the offensive is intended at crushing the militants, who have influence across a wide area of the north-west.

It may be mentioned that the army has been fighting the Taliban in Swat and other areas since a peace deal broke down earlier this month.

As per the figures, around 1.5 million people have left the valley and took shelter either in relief camps or went to the relatives and friends’ homes.

A recent investigation by the BBC suggested that less than half of Pakistan’s North West Frontier Province (NWFP), which contains Swat Valley, and the neighbouring Federally Administered Tribal Areas is under full government control.
