First Session of Lok Sabha on June One

In its first meeting after the swearing-in, the new Cabinet has decided to convene the first session of the Lok Sabha from June one to June nine. Prime Minister Manmohan Singh presided over in the meeting. 

Union Minister P Chidambaram said that in the meeting, a time-table was chalked out for the parliament session which will have seven sittings.

Hinting at the government’s commitment to get on with its work, the Prime Minister told the cabinet in the meeting that UPA made a number promises to the people which “we have promises to keep”.

According to the schedule finalized for the session, parliamentarians will take oath in the first days and then Speaker will be elected on June 3. On June 4, President Pratibha Patil will address joint session of the parliament.

Discussion on the Motion of Thanks to the president will be taken up on June five, eight and nine.

Chidambaram said that the Rajya Sabha will also commence its session on June four.

The government would soon recommend to the president to convene the Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha sessions, he said.

After a short break, the next session will be convened to pass the budget.
