Jolly Roger Relents, Pirates Free Indian, Bangladeshi Crew
Somali pirates have freed nine Indian and Bangladeshi seafarers after businessmen and clan elders in the country’s semi-autonomous northern Puntland region negotiated their release, said media reports citing residents on Sunday.
The sailors were dropped off late on Saturday in Puntland’s capital Garowe. The identities of the freed sailors or the vessels they belonged to were not immediately clear, or if or not any ransom was paid.
The pirates have been holding at least 13 ships and more than 230 crew hostage.
