Fourth day of protest in Afghanistan against NATO

KABUL: Protest across the Afghanistan continued on Friday over the burning of the Holy Book of Islam by NATO troops. Five people have been injured in different areas in the of the country.

Beside that demonstrations had been peaceful in many areas Friday morning, Ministry of Interior officials said according to reports.

Sources said in Herat, demonstrations were heating up Friday afternoon as hundreds of citizens gathered near the U.S. consulate.

The CNN quoted a witness statement saying demonstrators were setting vehicles on fire, including police cars.

This was the fourth day of protest after the incident occurred and second after the US president apology letter has received. In the letter delivered to Afghan President Hamid Karzai, Obama termed the act “inadvertent,” Karzai’s office and National Security Council spokesman Tommy Vietor said Thursday.

Obama said in the letter delivered by Ryan Crocker, the U.S. ambassador to Afghanistan, “We will take the appropriate steps to avoid any recurrence, including holding accountable those responsible,”
