Clear BPL List of Wealthy Persons: Bhargava

Minister for Panchayats and Rural Development and Social Justice Gopal Bhargava has asked to identify wealthy people enlisted in BPL list and remove their names.

Addressing a meeting of District Planning Commission at Damoh, the minister said that he had been receiving complaints that affluent people were unduly seeking advantage under BPL list.

He stressed the need to curb any activity which deprives poor people of their rights and asked for a widespread campaign to be launched for the purpose.

Bhargava, who is in-charge minister of Damoh district, said that Rs 544 crore 68 lakh was allocated for Damoh district under Bundelkhand package, which includes Rs 350 crore additional Central grant and Rs 194.70 crore under current Central schemes.

He said that everyone should participate in the development process and no one should left out.

At a meeting, the minister made a department-wise review of the works undertaken during the last financial year along with physical verification under BRGF scheme.

He said that priority should be given to Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana works under BRGF and Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme for connectivity of villages with all-weather roads.

Roads measuring 614 kilometres are to be laid in the district under the schemes.

He instructed that pump sets should be provided under SGSY to cent per cent beneficiaries of Kapil Dhara Koop. A cold storage should be built in every block, he said.
