Blast in Russia’s Dagestan, Two Killed
An explosion occurred overnight Thursday in Russia’s Caucasus region of Dagestan killing two persons and injuring a third, said media reports.
The regional interior ministry’s press office said that the blast took place at nearly 00:30 am Moscow Time on Thursday in a vehicle near the Toturbiikala village, reports said.
“According to preliminary information, an explosive device that was carried in the car went off,” the press service was quoted as saying by the Interfax news agency.
Reports said that the explosion may have been triggered by accident.
Yesterday, 12 people, nine of them policemen, were killed and 26 injured in two suicide bombings in the Dagestani town of Kizlyar.
Dagestan twin bombings followed Monday’s bombings at Moscow metro station in which 39 people were killed and that authorities linked to North Caucasus militants.
A Chechen militant group led by Doku Umarov, the self-proclaimed emir of the North Caucasus, has claimed responsibility for Monday’s twin bombing attacks via an online video clip.
Umarov, sought for alleged terrorism, kidnapping, murder and treason, said the blasts were revenge for the killing of civilians by Russian security forces.
Russian Prime Minister Vladimir Putin said Wednesday that it was possible that the same group was behind both attacks.
