MP honey trap scandal: Indore city engineer suspended over conduct by government

His conduct amounted to moral turpitude that was unbecoming of a civil servant and violated service conduct rules: IMC Commissioner

Indore: The Indore Municipal Corporation on Monday suspended city engineer Harbhajan Singh, whose complaint revealed the honey trap gang scandal in Madhya Pradesh, said an indiatoday.in report.
Citing media reports and conduct rules, the Indore Municipal Commissioner on Monday suspended Singh over his conduct.
In the suspension order, the commissioner said, “His conduct amounted to moral turpitude that was unbecoming of a civil servant and violated service conduct rules.”
Harbhajan Singh, a former football player from Rewa served as Indore’s city engineer for more than a decade. It was on the basis of his complaint that the Madhya Pradesh ATS and crime branch of state police unearthed the honey trap gang racket.
The Indore crime branch had arrested two women after setting a trap. This further led to the discovery of the fact that three women from Bhopal were also involved in blackmailing several politicians and bureaucrats in similar operations.
Meanwhile, the state government has now formed a special investigation team (SIT) to investigate the honey trap case in which names of several top politicians and bureaucrats are likely to figure.
A total of six people have been arrested in Indore and Bhopal on September 18-19 on suspicion of being a part of the gang which runs the honey trap racket.
Police had seized electronic gadgets including spy cameras as well as mobile phones and cash.
State Director-General of Police Vijay Kumar Singh constituted the SIT head by Inspector-General (CID) D Sriniwas Verma to investigate the case registered as Palasia Police Station in Indore on September 17.
Police had identified the accused as Aarti Dayal (29), Monica Yadav (18), Shweta Vijay Jain (39), Shweta Swapnil Jain (48), Barkha Soni (34) and Omprakash Kori (45), all of whom are in jail now.
The honey-trapping racket was busted after Indore Municipal Corporation superintendent engineer Harbhajan Singh approached police last week claiming the accused were blackmailing him to the tune of Rs 3 crore over objectionable video clips.
