Bandh Disrupts Life in Several Orissa Districts

A daylong shut down called by the outlawed Maoists hit normal life in south-western parts of Orissa, bordering Chhattisgarh and Andhra Pradesh on Tuesday. Koraput, Malkangiri, Rayagada, Gajapati were reported to be the worst affected by the bandh.

The Maoists called for the bandh to protest against the recent arrests of the rebel-backed Chasi Mulia Adibasi Sangha (CMAS) activists in the Narayanpatana area of Koraput district.

Reports citing police sources said that though the situation remained under control, vehicular traffic was affected at several places as rebels put up improvised barricades by felling trees.

Several trains passing through the area were also diverted by the East Coast Railways even as a huge police deployment guarded areas known to have rebel presence.
