88 Tehran University Professors Rap Crackdown on Protestors
As many as 88 Tehran University professors have appealed to Iran’s supreme leader to stop violence against opposition protestors, said a pro-reform Web site.
The letter to Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, the latest challenge to the leadership, described the attacks as a sign of weakness in the ruling system.
The letter posted on The Greenroad Web site urged Khamenei to order arrest of the hard-line crackdown, which has gone up after protestors started shouting slogans against the supreme leader.
At least eight people died during clashes across Iran last month, including a nephew of opposition leader Mir Hossein Mousavi. It was the worst bloodshed since the height of the unrest immediately after disputed June presidential election.
