Vision and willpower necessary for scheme’s success : Babulal Gaur

Bhopal: Rajiv Aawas Yojna of the Union Government is very important for making town slum-free. Besides vision of officers and people’s representatives, their willpower is also necessary for the success of this scheme. For this, there is need to work in the field also. These views were expressed by Urban Administration & Development Minister Shri Babulal Gaur on the occasion of inauguration of a one-day workshop under Rajiv Aawas Yojna here today. Satna Mayor Shri Pushkar Singh Tomar, Rewa Mayor Shri Shivendra Singh, Dewas Mayor Sushri Rekha Verma, departmental officers and experts were present on the occasion.
Shri Gaur said that a total of 16 cities have been covered under the scheme in the state including six cities in the first phase and 10 in the second phase. These include all the 14 municipal corporations including Bhopal, Indore, Gwalior, Jabalpur, Sagar, Burhanpur, Dewas, Khandwa, Ratlam, Rewa, Satna, Singrauli and Katni and two municipalities including Chhindwara and Neemuch. Under the first phase, a target has been set to Rs. 13 thousand 750 crore development and infrastructure works in 1,761 slums at Bhopal, Indore, Gwalior, Ujjain, Sagar and Jabalpur. This will benefit about 20 lakh citizens. Minster Shri Gaur said that works should be started immediately in the cities for which the Union Government has sanctioned schemes. He said that schemes should be implemented by persuading people. Concerning slums’ videography is also necessary before starting works.
Principal Secretary Urban Administration & Development Shri S.P.S. Parihar informed that about 38 lakh families reside in state’s cities. Of these, there are 13 lakh BPL families. About 80 percent BPL families need clean housing arrangements. The Union and State governments provide 70 percent subsidy to slum dwellers for constructing houses under Rajiv Aawas Yojna. He directed to chalk out proper estimates under scheme, chalk out schemes by consulting beneficiaries and make arrangements to maintain houses constructed under the scheme.
At the outset, Commissioner Urban Administration and Development Shri Sanjay Shukla welcomed the guests and participants. He informed that the Union Government has sanctioned schemes for Indore, Gwalior, Jabalpur and Sagar cities so far. DPRs of Bhopal and Ujjain have been sent for approval. Process is underway to prepare DPRs of ten new cities of the state covered under the scheme. A state-level work group has been constituted for the scheme’s implementation. Other necessary arrangements for it are also being made.
