US Consul General appreciates favourable atmosphere for trade between MP-US

Bhopal: The Chief Minister Shri Shivraj Singh Chouhan has underlined immense prospects of investment in defence production in Madhya Pradesh. Favourable environment and geographical conditions prevail for investment in the State he said adding that Madhya Pradesh is the first among Indian states to have announced a policy for manufacturing of defence products. Shri Chouhan was holding discussions with the US Consul General Shri Thomas L. Vajda at Mantralaya here today.

The Chief Minister said that American companies have expressed deep interest in investment in the state. ‘FriendsofMP’ website has been launched for close interaction between NRIs and Madhya Pradesh. He informed Shri Vajda about impressive achievements in social development sector. He listed a number of schemes launched for women’s empowerment and upliftment of the poorest. Save Girl Child campaign and scheme like Ladli Laxmi have gained social acceptance. Leadership of women in local bodies has been encouraged by giving fifty per cent reservation of seats. They have 30 percent reservation in recruitment for police force. Peaceful coordination and solidarity prevail among communities. The state government has been enriching the practice of Sarvadharm Sambhav.

Shri Chouhan further informed the Consul General that Madhya Pradesh tops in terms of growth rate among Indian states. The States of Indian Union will be receiving increased revenue share following the central government’s decision to increase the share of States in the central taxes.

Shri Vajda appreciated the favourable environment for investment between India and the US. saying that many American companies are showing eagerness to invest in Madhya Pradesh. Now there are plans to hold a workshop in Mumbai for US investors. He also praised Madhya Pradesh for strategic steps to prevent gender based discrimination and improving social development indicators. The Chief Secretary, Shri Anthony De Sa and Principal Secretary to Chief Minister Shri S.K. Mishra attended the meeting.
