Bhopal: Two farmers from Madhya Pradesh received Krishi Karman Award for progressive farmers for the year 2011-12. Shri Gambhir Singh from Hoshangabad District and Smt. Radha Bai Dubey from Raisen District received the award from President Shri Pranab Mukherjee at a function organised in New Delhi today at Rashtrapati Bhawan by the Union Agriculture Ministry. They received a citation and a cash award Rs. one lakh each as a token of recognition for their meritorious work in achieving high productivity in food grains.
Farmers of the state have played key role in the process as they adopted improved practices and put available land in water resources in the best possible manner. Shri Gambhir Singh owns about 3.5 hectare irrigated land and generally follows soyabean wheat rotation. He used a proved variety of GW-322 of wheat and planted the crop on 3.5 hectare of land. He followed improved package of practices which included deep ploughing of land during preceding summer, single tillage of operation with rotavator, sowing of crops using seed drill seed treatment with tricoderma and carbendazim, use of azotobactor etc. Since the soil is deep black only for irrigation at recommended growth stages were given. The yield recorded was 7400 kg/hectare as against normal yield of the district of 4742 kgs/hectare.
Smt. Radha Bai Dubey of Raisen District owns only 1.619 hectare of land. She planted the land with gram during rabi 2011-12. She used an improved and most popular variety JG-11 developed by JNKVV and followed recommended nutrient management practices. Yield of 2300 kgs/hectare was recorded as against normal yield of Raisen District of 1250 kgs./hectare. This indeed is a very significant and commendable achievement by a woman farmer.
