Special pulse polio campaign to be launched in state

Bhopal: Pulse polio dose will be given as a precaution to children upto 5 years of age in Madhya Pradesh which has already become polio-free in year 2008. This work has been entrusted to 91 thousand teams under special efforts to ensure that polio does not recur in Madhya Pradesh. Under the campaign, anti-polio drops will be administered to one crore 14 lakh children in the state on January 20 and February 24. The Health Department is making necessary preparations for the campaign. Chief Secretary Shri R. Parasuram reviewed preparations for the campaign here today.
Side by side pulse polio campaign, progress of regular vaccination programme is also being reviewed constantly. The responsibility of administering necessary vaccines for protecting children against deadly diseases has been entrusted to the Health Department employees. District Collectors are reviewing arrangements of both vaccination programme and pulse polio campaign.
8 thousand mobile teams: The campaign to administer anti-polio drops to children will be carried out in all cities, towns, villages and Majra-tolas in the state. Mobile teams will carry out the work in the temporary habitats of nomadic and semi-nomadic tribes and public places like railway stations and bus stands. This arrangement will be in place in all 50 districts. A total of 15 thousand supervisors will supervise the campaign for which special arrangement of 4 thousand vehicles has been made. District collectors are working as campaign in-charges in view of certification procedure of the World Health Organisation. Cooperation is also being sought as per requirement from other departments and voluntary organisations as well with a view to eliminating chances of the disease’s recurrence. The Public Health & Family Welfare Department has appealed to people of the state to cooperate in this important work for saving their children from polio.
