System will remain active till September 18; 65% water of September quota fell in 12 days

After uneven rainfall in July-August, monsoon has been good  in September. It rained 4 inches here in just 12 days. Due to this the rainfall figure has reached 71%.

The Meteorological Department has again predicted heavy rain between September 15 and 21. In such a situation, the water level of Kolar, Kaliyasot and Kerava Dam including the city’s lifeline Bada Talab is expected to rise. Due to the rains so far in September, the water in Kaliyasot and Kerava dams has increased.

Bhopal has received 24.81 inches of rain so far. However, 34.88 inches of rain was expected. According to this, rainfall has reduced by 29%, but meteorologists are saying that this figure will increase. Senior meteorologist HS Pandey said that the monsoon which has been active since September 15 will bring rain in the state. In such a situation, there may be heavy rain in Bhopal also.

The catchment area of Bada Talab is Sehore. When the Kolans river swells, the water in the Upper Lake  increases. This time there has been less rainfall in Sehore also. However, after September 15, there may be heavy rain here. This will increase the water level in Upper lake , Kolar and Kerava Dam. After filling of Bada Talab, water will come to Bhadbhada and then Kaliyasot Dam. With this, there is hope that its gates will also open.

Upper Lake : Its water holding capacity is 1666.80 feet. Currently it has 1664.10 feet of water. 2.70 feet of water is still needed to fill it completely. Last time the big pond was filled in July itself. Due to this, the gates of Bhadbhada and Kaliyasot dams were also opened. This time it is not such a picture.

Kolar Dam: Its water level is 1516.40 feet. Currently 1504.36 feet of water is accumulated in it. Accordingly, it is 12 feet empty. Kolar Dam supplies water to 40% of Bhopal city.

Kerava Dam: So far, 1666.89 feet of water has come into the Kerava Dam of total 1673 feet. The water in the dam has increased due to the recent rains. However, the gates of the dam have not been opened even once in this monsoon season, whereas all the gates were opened in July last year itself. The dam requires more than 7 feet of water to fill the full tank. Only 5% of water is supplied to the city from Kerava Dam.

Kaliyasot Dam: The water level of the dam is 1650.91 feet. There has been an inflow of water due to the rains since last few days. The total water holding capacity of the dam is 1659 feet. Due to this the dam is still 9 feet empty. When the gates of Bada Talab open, water will flow into Kaliyasot Dam and the gates will open.

440 MLD (million liters daily) water is supplied daily in Bhopal. 40% water is supplied to the city from Kolar Dam, 30% from Narmada Line, 25% from Bada Talab and 5% from Kerwa Dam. There are a total of 2.30 lakh tap connections in the city. Through this, the Municipal Corporation delivers water to every household in the morning and evening.
