Rewa to model of solar streetlights

Bhopal: Rewa, which has credit for largest solar plant in the world, is going to become role model for the state in case of solar streetlights. Energy, New & Renewable Energy and Mineral Resources Minister Shri Rajendra Shukla lay foundation stone of the solar power plant to be established in partnership with various government undertakings on June 21. University Road’s 3 km long stretch will light up with clean energy.
This novel initiative for partnership in solar power plant at Rewa taken on the initiative of Energy Minister Shri Shukla will be a role model for cities of entire state. Technical Education Department will provide Rs. 89 lakh for establishment of 100 KV solar power plant on the premises of Rewa Engineering College. A sum of Rs. one crore 50 thousand will be spent on erection of poles of streetlights. For this, Rs. 50 lakh will be contributed through public participation and Rs. 50 lakh will be borne by district administration. Energy Development Corporation will provide 240 LED lights for 120 poles costing about Rs. 5 lakh. In this way, it will a unique example of partnership.

Use of net metering for first time

For solar power, net metering prevalent in Germany will be used in the state for the first time. It means that power generated in the solar plant will be given to power grid. Calculation will be done through net metering as to how much power has been given to the grid and how much used for streetlights. The plant will generate average 400 units of power daily. On University Road in Rewa, 3.5 km long stretch will light up with LEDs. The energy generated at solar plant at the engineering college will reduce carbon emissions by 450 tonnes per annum
