Prisoners and visitors to talk while seeing each other: Gaur

Bhopal: Home and Jail Minister Shri Babulal Gaur launched intercom meeting facility at Central Jail for meeting between prisoners and relatives. In visitors’ room, prisoners and visitors will talk while seeing each other. Earlier, a grill used to be between prisoners and visitors which has been removed now. Central Jail Superintendent Shri M. R. Patel was present on the occasion.

Shri Gaur inaugurated this facility in 2 separate rooms for under-trial and convicted prisoners. Under the system, a transparent glass has been put between prisoner and visitor due to which they can see each other while talking. Intercom facility has been provided so that they can hear each other clearly. This system is effective from security point of view also.

Shri Gaur also took stock of arrangements at the Central Jail. He got trial of video-conferencing from jail and inspected electronic system to keep watch over every part of the jail through CC TV cameras. He also held discussions with people coming to meet prisoners. On the appeal of women prisoners to transfer them to home district jail, Shri Gaur asked DG Jail that if women prisoners in Bhopal jail apply to get transferred to home district jail then their application should be considered if there is arrangement to keep women prisoners there.

Shri Gaur checked quality of food served to prisoners and inspected kitchen. He inspected anganwadi in the jail being operated for women prisoners’ children. He also sought information about various other issues. Shri Gaur appreciated Bhajan sung by prisoners’ cultural group. Shri Gaur went round the jail hospital and held discussions with prisoner patients.

Director General Jail Shri Surendra Singh informed that there are 2895 prisoners in Bhopal Central Jail of which 2750 are males and 145 females. Of these, 1987 convicted prisoners, 948 under-trial prisoners, 18 NSA and 29 SIMI detainees.
