Chalk out community-based malnutrition management strategy

Bhopal: Stressing the need for constant review of schemes for removing malnutrition, Chief Minister Shri Shivraj Singh Chouhan has directed to constitute monitoring committees comprising prominent social workers and specialists. Shri Chouhan was addressing the first meeting of the Atal Child Heath & Nutrition Mission’s general body here today.
Giving instructions to monitor children’s attendance in aganwadis, their health and weight, the Chief Minister said that good results will come if children are given nutritious diet before malnutrition grips them. He stressed the need for chalking out a special strategy in the areas where serious malnutrition is detected. Initiative will be taken to provide food which gives more nourishment and energy in less quantity under community-based malnutrition management strategy. It will be a novel initiative in the country. This food will be prepared with the assistance of Madhya Pradesh Agro Industries.
The Chief Minister directed to evaluate performance of Sanjha Chula programme and aganwaids as well as their staff. He said that effective implementation of schemes is necessary to remove malnutrition. Underlining the need to train Anganwadi workers, he said that encouragement to community-based efforts will help achieve targets. He directed to chalk out strategies keeping districts’ social, educational and geographical conditions in view. Shri Chouhan said that the good efforts made to end malnutrition in districts should be studied and expanded to other districts.
Rural Development Minister Shri Gopal Bhargava, Women and Child Development Minister Smt. Ranjana Baghel, Chief Secretary Shri R. Parasuram, Additional Chief Secretary Food Shri Antony J. D’sa, Principal Secretary Women & Child Development Shri B.R. Naidu and Principal Secretaries of concerning departments were present on the occasion.
