Ibrahim Kaskar spoke to brother Dawood Ibrahim four times recently

Mumbai: Ibrahim Kaskar, who recently was arrested by Thane police in an extortion case, told cops that he spoke with his gangster brother Dawood Ibrahim four times in the recent past.
Media reports claimed that Kaskar is learnt to have told cops that he spoke to Dawood over phone and that he made the calls using burner phones and SIM boxes. SIM boxes are used to
route voice over internet protocol calls in a manner that can confuse security and intelligence agencies as to who is making phone calls to whom.
Kaskar has said that he made at least four such calls to Dawood in the recent past. Police sources told a leading English daily that there is suspicion that the last call could have come as
recently as this month when a building next to Kaskar’s home collapsed in Mumbai’s Bhendi Bazaar.
Kaskar, who previously told police interrogators that his brother was in fact in Pakistan, also revealed that Dawood, along with the third brother Anees Ibrahim, travels to Duabi without
papers to avoid being tracked by intelligence agencies.
Kaskar said that Dawood, Anees and other close family members stay in a mansion located behind the Abdul Qazi dargah in Karachi, Pakistan’s Clifton area. Two more mansions, located
nearby, are occupied by close aides of the underworld don, Kaskar said.
India has long alleged that Dawood Ibrahim stays in Pakistan, under the protection of the country’s intelligence agency, the Inter-Services Intelligence. Pakistan has denied those charges.
Ibrahim Kaskar was arrested earlier this week by the Thane Police’s anti-extortion cell. A team led by encounter specialist Pradeep Sharma, who was recently reinstated as a cop, arrested
Kaskar for allegedly attempting to extort money from a businessman.
Kaskar was deported to India from United Arab Emirates in 2003 as he was wanted in a murder case and the Sara Sahara illegal construction case. However, he was acquitted in both the
cases in 2007. In February 2015, Kaskar was arrested but released on bail in another extortion case.
