AP By-polls today, crucial day for Jagan

Hyderabad. The Polling will be held for Nellore Lok Sabaha constituency and 26 assembly seats across eight district of Andhra Pradesh on Tuesday. As many as 46,13,589 voters would exercise their franchise at 5,413 polling stations. The polling will be held from 8 am to 5 pm. Counting of votes will be taken up on June 15.
The assembly seats including one in Telangana fell vacant following the disqualification of Congress rebels who joined Jagan’s party. The Tirupati seat fell vacant following Praja Rajyam chief Chiranjeevi’s election to the Rajya Sabha.
Parkal is the only one seat going for bypoll is in the Telangana region. Here, the YSR Congress candidate Konda Surekha had resigned as minister and MLA in support of Jagan Mohan Reddy. Though the Telangana sentiment is strong, the split of votes between the Telangana Rashtryia Samiti (TRS), which many believe has an edge, and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is to expected to give the YSR Congress an advantage.

State Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) Bhanwar Lal told reporters that 50,000 polling personnel including 138 companies of Central Armed Police Force (CAPF) have been deployed for the conduct of elections.
For the YSR Congress, the by-elections marked by a high decibel campaign have become very crucial as it had fielded all 17 MLAs who had been disqualified for defying the Congress party whip in the assembly and their victory could be a threat to the Congress government, which is surviving with a razor thin majority. As against the magic figure of 148 MLAs in the 294-member assembly, the Congress has just 151 MLAs at present.
“We are confident that we will make an impact. We will put up a good show,” Union minister for overseas indian affairs Vayalar Ravi and AICC in-charge of AP told reporters in Hyderabad
