‘Mubarak is in Very Critical Condition’

CAIRO:  Ousted Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak is in very critical condition. He defibrillated twice to revive his heart on Monday. Mubarak’s health is not well since he’s moving to prison.

on Monday, a prison hospital source said.

“His condition is very critical,” Farid al-Deeb, his chief lawyer in the murder and corruption trial which ended this month with his sentencing said. “I appeal through Agence France-Presse to all world leaders and NGOs: save Mubarak,” he added.

The 84-year-old leader was sentenced to life for killing 850 protesters in 2011 revolt against him. His medical condition deteriorated and he suffered an emotional breakdown after being moved to Tora prison on the outskirts of Cairo on June 2, where he remains in intensive care in the prison hospital.

He has suffered from acute depression since his transfer, as well as periodic increases in blood pressure and shortness of breath, the interior ministry source said.

Prison authorities last week agreed to move Mubarak’s son Gamal, who is in the same prison awaiting trial on corruption charges, closer to his father.

Mubarak asked that his other son Alaa, also in Tora awaiting trial on the same charges as Gamal, be allowed to stay with him.

“He wants both his sons by his side,” a security official said.

Mubarak’s wife Suzanne and his two daughters-in-law were given special permission to visit him on Sunday following rumours that he had died in prison, state media reported.
