TV actor Bhupinder Singh arrested for murder, injures 3 people in open firing

Television actor Bhupinder Singh has been charged with murder after he shot a man and injured three others during a squabble in Bijnor. The murder stemmed from a minor incident over the felling of trees. Bhupinder, 54, has acted in popular TV serials like ‘Yeh Pyaar Na Hoga Kam’, ‘Ek Haseena Thi’, ‘Madhubala –Ek Ishq Ek Junoon’, ‘Rishton Ka Chakravyuh’ and ‘Tere Sheher Mein’.

Bhupinder Singh and his aides fired more than 10 rounds from licenced and illegal weapons at four members of a family. They killed a family member named Govind (23). Three members of the same family – his father Gurdeep Singh, mother Meera Bai and elder brother Amreek Singh – were shot and seriously injured. All three are undergoing treatment in the district hospital. They are in a critical condition.

As soon as the information about this firing was received, the DIG from Moradabad met the injured and took information about the matter. The victim’s family have accused the police of negligence and complained about the whole matter to the DIG. They claimed that even after complaining on November 19, no action was taken by the police.

As of now, the police have arrested two people who opened fire.

Gurdeep Singh, resident of village Kuan Kheda of Badhapur police station area of Bijnor, was having a dispute with his neighbour and TV actor Bhupinder Singh regarding cutting of Eucalyptus trees in his farm. He said that Bhupendra had earlier also cut four to five eucalyptus trees. He had complained to the police of Badhapur police station on November 19.

However, the police did not take his complaint seriously. Recently, there was a dispute between Gurdeep Singh’s family and Bhupendra Singh regarding the cutting of trees again. Bhupendra Singh, along with his servants, fired around 10 rounds with his licenced revolver and illegal gun in which one of Gurdeep Singh’s sons, Govind, died on the spot.

Govinda’s other son, Amrik Singh, his wife and Gurdeep Singh himself got injured due to bullet injuries. After this, a stampede broke out and tension prevailed in the village.

As soon as the information was received, Deputy Inspector General Moradabad Muniraj himself reached the spot late in the evening and took stock of the entire spot. DIG said that the investigation of the entire case is going on.

The main accused Bhupendra and his servants have been arrested. Meanwhile, the search for two other accused is still going on. The injured are being given treatment under the supervision of the police.

On the matter of police negligence, the DIG said that the entire matter will be investigated by an Additional SP level officer. If lapses are found, then strict action will be taken against them.

Meanwhile, the last rites of Govinda were performed at Ramganga Ghat recently. Since his father, mother and brother couldn’t attend, his funeral pyre was lit by his sister Sukhwinder Kaur.

The villager also said that Bhupinder used to threaten all the families in the village, hence no one tried to get involved with him.

After a thorough enquiry, Badhapur police station in-charge Sumit Rathi, inspector Yasin and police constable Krishna Kumar have been suspended by the Superintendent of police. Komal Singh has been made the new police station in-charge
