Rahul Allegedly Denied to Garland Ambedkar Statue in UP, Cong Accuses BSP

AICC general secretary Rahul Gandhi has allegedly been denied permission by Ambedkar Nagar administration in Uttar Pradesh to garland the statue of BR Ambedkar, leading Congress to accuse BSP of attempting to monopolise his legacy, reported PTIl

The Congress claimed that the Ambedkar Nagar administration denied permission to Rahul to hold his function and wanted that his meeting be scheduled after Chief Minister Mayawati’s function at the venue, report said.

Both the Congress and the BSP have lined up functions in Ambedkar Nagar to mark the 119th birth anniversary of Ambedkar.

Reacting to this, the Congress blamed the BSP for attempting to monopolise Ambedkar’s legacy, said report.

“It is very unfortunate. This is trying to monopolise a legacy which belongs to the entire country. Nobody has exclusive rights on the memory or the teachings of any national leader. No political party should try to monopolise the legacy of our national leaders,” Party spokesperson Shakeel Ahmed was quoted as saying in New Delhi.

He said the values, teachings and the goodwill generated by Ambedkar were not the exclusive domain of any one, report said.
