BJP responsible for decrease in tiger numbers in C’garh: Cong

The ruling Congress in Chhattisgarh held the previous BJP regime responsible for decrease in numbers of tigers in the state.

Notably, according to ‘Status of Tiger in India Report-2018’ released on Monday, the number of tigers in Chhattisgarh dropped to 19 from 46 in 2014.

“For the past 15 years, the BJP government led by Raman Singh had neglected forest and wildlife in the state and this is its result,” Shailesh Nitin Trivedi Chairman Congress Communication department said.

He alleged that during the BJP regime the state government had failed to create provision for water in the jungles which resulted in deaths of various wild animals.

“During the BJP regime more than 15 tiger skins were recovered from Dhamtari forest division, Sitanadi Udanti Tiger reserve and Kanker division. This is enough to imagine how rampant illegal poaching was during the BJP regime in Chhattisgarh,” Trivedi said.

He alleged that due to the negligence of forest officials and BJP government the numbers of wild cats took a nosedive in Chhattisgarh.

According to the Congress not only tiger but smugglers were also caught with bear skins, which proved the carelessness of the erstwhile regime towards wildlife in the state.
