Detailed action plan for conservation of Upper lake

Bhopal: Chief Minister Shri Shivraj Singh Chouhan made an aerial survey of catchment area of Bhopal’s Upper Lake today. He was accompanied by Urban Administration and Development Minister Shri Babulal Gaur, Chief Secretary Shri R. Parasuram and Principal Secretary Urban Administration Shri S.P.S. Parihar.

Chief Minister Shri Chouhan said that a detailed action plan will be chalked out for conservation and development of Bhopal’s lakes. Catchment areas of the Upper Lake will be defined in clear terms. Besides the Upper Lake, the Chief Minister also made aerial survey of Upper Lake’s tributaries Kolas and Uljhawan rivers’ originating points, the Lower Lake of Bhopal, Kerwa Dam, Shahpura Lake, Motia Talab etc. Chief Minister Shri Chouhan said that paths of streams falling into lakes should be cleaned and hurdles removed. Bhopal will be remembered in the world as city of beautiful lakes.

The Chief Minister stressed the need for deepening Kolas and Uljhawan rivers and remove hurdles from their course. He said that soon a scheme will be chalked out for promoting organic farming and crops in the Upper Lake’s catchment areas. Attention should be paid that farmers and villagers do not face any difficulties. A meeting will soon be convened to chalk out an action plan in this regard. He said that Bhopal is city of lakes. The city is beautiful due to lakes. Beautification of lakes will be incorporated in the action plan.
