Training to drive must for road safety: Baghel
Good driving is not about speed but maintaining control over the vehicle, and this is possible only through better training, knowledge of the engine and adhering to road safety, Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel said on Thursday.
Training to drive will go a long way in improving road safety, he said.
As chief guest, Baghel was addressing a public gathering after dedicating the Institute of Driving and Traffic Research (IDTR), Tendua, Nava Raipur.
He announced a 50 percent rebate on fees charged for women and third-gender candidates and free training for differently-abled persons.
Recalling his younger days, Baghel said: “When father slept, I used to ride the scooter far from the house. Such rides even led to accidents. Later, I learnt to drive tractors and other vehicles. Maruti 800 was the first vehicle I bought after being elected as MLA.”
He said with more than three crore population in Chhattisgarh, every fourth person has one vehicle — a two-wheeler or car or tractor or jeep or heavy vehicle. The need of the hour is to drive safely.
Kenichi Ayukawa, Managing Director/CEO, Maruti Suzuki India Ltd, said 250 candidates can be trained for non-commercial and commercial vehicles through five classrooms. The non-commercial training is for 21 days while for commercial it is 30 days.
Till date more than 39 lakh people across the country have been trained.
