Rocket attack on Peshawar airport, 10 killed, 40 injured

Peshwawar: Nearly ten people, including five militants, have died in the rocket attack on Peshawar airport on Saturday night. Over 40 people are said to be injured. Security officials say that three rockets were fired at the Bacha Khan International Airport from the tribal areas adjoining Peshawar, the capital of Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa province. Following a gun battle, the security forces were able to take control of the area.
Reports claimed that one of the rockets hit a residential block, while another fell near the airport’s boundary. The army cordoned off the airport as all flights were cancelled and troops conducted an operation to ascertain if any militants had entered the airport.
TV channels reported that troops were exchanging fire with suspected militants almost 40 minutes after the rockets were fired at the airport. The Taliban has now claimed responsibility for the attack.
