MCI Recommends Derecognition of All 5 Govt Medical Colleges

All the five government medical colleges of the state will be derecognized if the recommendations of Medical Council of India (MCI) are put in practice. In addition, the MCI has recommended derecongnition of three more medical colleges, one each from Maharashtra, Karnataka and Uttar Pradesh, said a PTI report.

Giving the aforementioned information to Lok Sabha, Union Health and Family Welfare Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad said that the MCI inspects the colleges in order to maintain the standard of medical education and health services in the country.

The medical colleges which are found not meeting the requirements as per MCI regulations are recommended to Central Government for withdrawal of recognition under section 19 of Medical Council Act, he added.

“The state governments, the concerned university and the medical colleges are consulted and given enough opportunity before any decision is taken in the matter,” he said.
