BSF Thwarts Infiltration Attempt in J&K

Following a fierce gunfight, BSF jawans have thwarted a major infiltration attempt by militants along the Indo-Pak border in Samba district of Jammu and Kashmir, said media reports quoting BSF officials.

Security personnel belonging to 59 battalion of BSF picked up movement of a huge group of armed terrorists near Ballard forward post in Ramgarh sub-sector in the morning, said reports.

As the militants opened fire on the BSF jawans and patrolling parties, they retaliated, reports said.

Officials said that BSP personnel fired para-bombs to light up the area and opened small arms firing and that they also fired 2-3 mortars, said reports.

The exchange of fire continued intermittently till 04:00 hours, reports said quoting officials.

They said that militants managed to escape towards the Pakistani side later and that they were given cover firing by security forces on the other side.

There was no casualty on the Indian side.
