Centre Reconstitutes GoM to Examine Relief and Rehabilitation of Gas Victims

Two days after a local court’s verdict in Bhopal gas tragedy case, the Union government has reconstituted a Group of Ministers (GoM) headed by home minister P Chidambaram to probe relief and rehabilitation of the victims of world’s worst industrial disaster, said media reports.

Officials said that the panel comprises of 10 members who include Union ministers Ghulam Nabi Azad, M Veerappa Moily, S Jaipal Reddy, Kamal Nath, Kumari Selja, MK Alagiri, Prithviraj Chavan, Jairam Ramesh and a minister in the Madhya Pradesh government as members, reports said.

The said that the panel would examine all issues pertaining to Bhopal gas leakage including remedial measures and make proper recommendations relating to the relief and rehabilitation of the victims of the tragedy and their families, said reports.

Nearly 26 years after the disaster left over 15,000 dead, former Union Carbide India Chairman Keshub Mahindra and six others were on Monday sentenced to two years imprisonment.
