Baghel slams Modi govt over crack down on Delhi protesters

Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel on Wednesday accused the Modi               government of “murdering democracy” by forcing the Enforcement Directorate to question Congress leader Rahul Gandhi for three days and for cracking down on Congress protests.

“As they are unable to tackle politics, they are using canes to suppress the voice of the opposition,” a visibly upset Baghel told the media in New Delhi before flying back to Raipur.

“No one will bow. We will continue to fight,” he said.

Baghel was on Tuesday blocked by Delhi Police from entering the AICC            headquarters in the heart of the national capital.

Interacting with the media, he said it was the first time that workers of any party were blocked from entering their own party office.

“Why has this situation arisen? Because of what has been happening in the    country for the last eight years. One person is          constantly highlighting the failures of the Central        government. It is Rahul Gandhi,” he added.

He said Delhi Police told him that only two Chief Ministers will be permitted to enter the party office and others cannot. “Such a         situation did not happen earlier.”

Baghel added: “I come from Naxalite state. I have Z security. I am told that only one security guard will take me. I am stopped in the    middle of the road for an hour. What is the conspiracy after all?”

He said that for the last three days all the leaders of AICC were in Delhi. On the first day, 200 leaders were allowed into the party office.

After that, curbs started. On the third day, leaders coming to the Congress headquarters were blocked.

Baghel and Congress leaders staged a sit-in protest against the police crackdown including cane-charge inside AICC premises.

Later, Baghel put out tweets to register his anger over the treatment meted out to him in Delhi.

The Chief Minister mocked at the ED action against Rahul Gandhi.

“Put a camera in the ED office. Give links to all media houses. The country should also know what are the    questions from ED and the answers of Rahul Gandhi. Will you be able to do it,” he asked.
