Salman Khan’s Race 3 becomes the highest opener of the year with first-day collection of Rs 29.17 crore at the box office

Mumbai: The trailer of Race 3 had Salman Khan famously saying “Iss race ka sikander main hoon.” His dialogue rings true in real life too, if the box office collection of the film so far is anything to go by.

Directed by Remo D’Souza, Race 3 was a winner in its opening day itself, having dethroned Tiger Shroff and Disha Patani’s Baaghi 2 to become the highest opener of the year so far with a first-day collection of Rs 29.17 crore. This is the third-highest opening Salman Khan film on Eid, after Ali Abbas Zafar’s Sultan (Rs 36.54 crore) and Kabir Khan’s Ek Tha Tiger (Rs 32.93 crore).

The film went on to have a smashing Eid, raking in Rs 38.17 crore, taking its total collection so far to Rs 67.31 crore. With this, Race 3 has zoomed past the Rs 50-crore mark in just two days of its release.

Race 3 revolves around Shamsher Singh (Anil Kapoor), the owner of an arms empire, and his family. His children, twins Sanjana (Daisy Shah) and Suraj (Saqib Saleem), are “sick of this Sikku” aka their half-brother Sikander Singh (Salman Khan). The family has to pull off a bank heist, with help from the mysterious Jessica (Jacqueline Fernandez), but with deceit and double-crossings at every corner, will they be able to do it?

Despite critics panning the film for its lack of coherent plot and logic, the audience is lapping up the film. With the next big Bollywood release, Rajkumar Hirani’s Sanju, hitting the screens on June 29, Race 3 has a two-week window to rake in the moolah.
