KWK row: BCCI suspends Hardik Pandya, KL Rahul from all forms of cricket; replacement to be announced soon

Indian cricketers KL Rahul and Hardik Pandya have created quite a stir with their controversial comments on the recently-aired episode of Koffee With Karan following which the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) have handed the duo a suspension from all forms of cricket pending an inquiry. Earlier on Friday, the Committee of Administrators (CoA) had sent a show-cause notice to Hardik and Rahul asking them for a reply within the next few weeks “as to why they should not be proceeded against for misconduct and indiscipline under Rule 41 of the BCCI Constitution”.

Following the suspension issued by CoA in accordance with BCCI, Hardik and Rahul will return to India for an enquiry against their misconduct and indiscipline done by them that have been initiated under Rule 41 of the BCCI Constitution that states – In terms of Rule 41(6) of the BCCI Constitution, the players are hereby suspended with immediate effect from participating in any manner whatsoever in any match or function or event or activity that is authorized, organized, sanctioned, recognized or supported in any way by the BCCI, the ICC or any State Association, until final adjudication of the matter.

Earlier in the evening, a show-cause notice was sent by CoA to both the cricketers, a mail which was also marked to the Indian skipper Virat Kohli and the head coach Ravi Shastri. The two responded with an apology, following which BCCI will proceed against them for misconduct and indiscipline. They have been now asked for a reply within the next seven days “as to why they should not be proceeded against for misconduct and indiscipline under Rule 41 of the BCCI Constitution.”

With Hardik and Rahul missing out Australia and New Zealand series as well, the All-India Senior Selection Committee will soon name their replacements.

Earlier in the afternoon, captain Virat Kohli revealed that the suspension of Pandya will not leave the team management pondering over a replacement. “…it’s good that we have someone like (Ravindra) Jadeja who can do the all-rounder’s role if a scenario like that occurs,” Kohli said.
