Kaushik seeks judicial probe into BJP leader Tiwari’s ‘custodial’ death

Leader of Opposition Dharamlal Kaushik in a letter to Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel on Thursday urged him to set up a judicial probe into the alleged custodial death of BJP leader from Marwahi Chandrika Prasad Tiwari.

In the letter, he also alleged that the Bilaspur superintendent of police was trying to cover up the case.

Kaushik alleged that Marwahi police had beaten Tiwari mercilessly in the police station.

Tiwari received internal injuries when he was thrashed and his teeth were also broken in the incident, Kaushik claimed. When he was produced before the court of Tehsildar, Kaushik informed the court that he was not feeling well. He was then taken to the hospital where he succumbed, the BJP leader said.

“The delay in providing medical aid by the police took his life and the Marwahi police are solely responsible for the death”, Kaushik charged.

“The fact that no action has been taken till now against the station house in charge of Marwahi police station raises question about whether the government is sheltering the police official who is responsible for the death of the BJP leader,” Kaushik added.
