Minor girls in Chhattisgarh accuse their 50-year-old school teacher of molesting them

Raipur: A middle school teacher has been arrested by police in the Rajnandgaon village of Chhattisgarh for allegedly molesting several minor girls. Police suspect 50-year-old Shyam Sai of molesting and sexually harassing a number of his female students during school hours and within the Arajkund school premises.The incident came to light when the mother of one of the victims, a student of class 6, asked her about the bruises on her body. The minor girl narrated her ordeal telling her mother how her teacher was trying to force himself on her which caused the bruises, reported One India. The mother then informed locals who caught hold of the teacher and thrashed him. The case was then taken to the police who arrested the teacher based on a complaint filed by the victim’s mother.

Emboldened by the teacher’s arrest, several other minor girls who were his students accused him of molesting them on multiple occasions. They told police officials that the accused used to touch them inappropriately and even asked them to remove their clothes inside the school. Local police have taken note of the complaints, mostly by students of classes 6 and 7.
Media reports claim that the accused teacher was caught misbehaving with a minor girl about a year ago. He was produced before a panchayat which allowed him to go after he gave them his word that he would never repeat his mistake. More details are awaited as a police investigation into the matter is still underway.In a recent incident that was reported from Chhattisgarh’s Balod district, a panchayat imposed a fine of Rs 3,051 on a teen boy for raping a 7-year-old girl. A report by Times of India suggested that the panchayat even threatened to impose a fine of Rs 10,000 on the girl’s father if he would have reported the matter to the police.
