Security arrangements for night-shift woman workers strengthened

Bhopal: The state government has issued orders regarding strengthening of security arrangements for woman workers during night shifts in state’s information technology units. This point was included in top priorities of 100-day action plan of the Labour Department.

The order directs to ensure regular inspection of all information technology units in the state where women are working in night shifts. Legal action will be taken if complaints regarding misconduct with woman workers or failure to comply with rules are received or their violation is found in any such units.

The Labour Minister informed that permission has been granted to women in information technology units in the state to work from 9 pm to 7 am with certain rules and conditions. These include that concerning unit will ensure prosecution process in deeds of sexual harassment, make available proper arrangements of work, rest, health, sanitation, ensure immediate proper action under Penal Code in cases of criminal nature, formulate complaint redressal committee, proper lighting arrangements in and around in the establishment, adequate security arrangements for women at entry and exit gates, make available proper shade for women coming early on duty or waiting to leave after duty, separate canteen for women, appointment of minimum 2 women wardens for night shift, at least one-third supervisors or shift in-charges or foreman women for night-time health facilities, payment of equal wages, compliance of labour laws etc.
