Remarkable expansion in horticulture activities in Madhya Pradesh

Bhopal: Horticulture activities are being expanded constantly in Madhya Pradesh. It is the result of state government’s constant efforts to make horticulture a profitable occupation that farmers have developed special interest in it. Now, farmers are increasingly adopting horticulture due to more profit in less area. The state government has also taken resolve to make agriculture profitable.

The state has registered outstanding achievements in horticulture sector due to which fruit area has increased by about 3 and half fold, vegetable 2 and half fold and spices area has expanded by 2 fold as compared to year 2008-09.

Rating of nurseries has been started this year to ensure availability of quality saplings and seeds. The state government has benefited farmers by constructing 313 onion warehouses. This will promote onion production as farmers will be benefited from sale of onion when market rates will be suitable.

Fairs and symposia are also being held at various levels to raise trained manpower. Through them, farmers are being trained in horticulture techniques. So far, about 14 thousand 567 farmers have been sent for training to Talegaon (Pune), Ludhiana and New Delhi.
