Intelligence Agencies Unearth Plans for More Terror Attacks: Reports

A day after gunbattle between security forces and militants in Srinagar, security and intelligence agencies have uncovered plans of the Pakistan-based militant organizations to launch more terror strikes in the Kashmir valley, said media reports.

The national daily ‘The Hindu’ reported citing highly placed sources that the plans were revealed when the intelligence agencies intercepted conversations between the terrorists holed up in Jammu and Kashmir and their handlers in Pakistan.

The recent siege in Srinagar in which two militants were killed have been seen by experts as an attempt to derail New Delhi’s attempts to begin dialogue process.

The report said that a number of modules of the Pakistan-trained terrorists were active in the valley to recce easy targets in winter.

Concerned at the attack in Lal Chowk area of Srinagar during peak winter, the Home Ministry has put its security mechanism on alert.

“We have specific information that Pakistan-trained terrorists are planning more such attacks to derail the peace talks,” a senior official was quoted as saying in the report.

“The new strategy of the terror groups has something to do with the depleted security presence in Srinagar and other big towns of the valley following the shifting of the Secretariat to Jammu, the winter capital,” the official was quoted as saying.

The officials said that the terrorists involved in the Lal Chowk attack kept in touch with their handlers in Pakistan.

“They were taking instructions from them on cell phones,” he was quoted as saying.

Preliminary probe into the attack has shown that it was plotted by the LeT and one of the terrorists was a Pakistani national, who was identified as Quari.
