Nitish on A Week’s Stay at Rajgir to Promote it on National Tourist Map

To attract more tourists in Bihar, chief minister Nitish Kumar is going to lay foundation of a world class convention centre in Rajgir that will cost Rs 33 crore. Opposition leaders have, however, termed it as wastage of money.

Cabinet ministers gathered at the Rajgir hillock on Tuesday for a weekly Cabinet meeting. Nitish came for the meeting by a helicopter.

In the meeting, Cabinet cleared recommendations of the Sixth Pay Commission at the popular tourist spot.

“I took a break and came here. We held a Cabinet meeting too,” says Nitish.

Sushil Kumar Modi, deputy chief minister, had this to say, “This is a gift for the people of Bihar.”

Nitish, who will stay at Rajgir for a week, said that his purpose was to hit two birds with one stone – take a break as well as promoting Rajgir on the national tourism map.

“This is a tourist place and we need to promote it,” says Nitish

Nevertheless, Nitish’s political opponents have found enough reasons to train their guns at him for what they call holidaying at public expense.

But Nitish seems unfazed. Maybe taking a cue from Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi who has gone all out to promote Gujarat as a tourist destination, Nitish plans to promote not just Rajgir, but other tourist spots of Bihar.
