Mob Turns Violent in Jamshedpur, Police Fires in Air

Police fired in air as a mob turned violent near Tata Steel Gate in Sakchi area of Jamshedpur and set ablaze many vehicles including police jeeps, said media reports.

Deputy Superintendent of Police P N Ram said that among the vehicles which were set ablaze were two police jeeps belonging to the Sakchi Police station and one belonging to Tata Steel’s security department, reports said.

Ram said that the crowd was perturbed over a security guard of Tata Steel beating up a labourer over a petty issue, said reports.

According to reports, the police fired in the air when the mob brickbatted the police when they intervened.

Senior Superintendent of Police Navin Kumar Singh rushed to the spot, reports said.

Quoting Tata Steel sources, reports said that the incident had nothing to do with the company as the problem was over an issue between a contractor and his labourers.
