Ceremony Marks Opening of Justice Tankha Memorial School for Special Children
Bhopal: The Noor-us-Sabah Palace was a buzz of activity Saturday morning as the virtual who’s who of the state capital descended on this scenic lakeside hotel to commemorate the formal opening of the Justice RK Tankha Memorial School for Special Children in the city.
The programme was attended by Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan while State Congress President Suresh Pachouri lit the ceremonial lamp and Rtn. Raja Saboo, former President of Rotary International delivered the keynote speech.
The Justice Tankha Memorial Trust was established in memory of Late Justice RK Tankha by his son, Vivek Tankha – former Advocate General of Madhya Pradesh and senior Supreme Court lawyer.
The Trust currently operates similar schools in Jabalpur, Gwalior and Bilaspur in addition to the one in Bhopal, and plans to reach out to every township in the MP-CG region to lend a helping hand and draw the ‘special children’ out of their predicament and into the mainstream.
Some 25 students have already registered at the Trust school located at Gandhi Nagar, the institute will conduct its activities under the watchful eye of Abdul Tahir, secretary of the school and a top corporate executive from the city.
Speaking on the occasion, Chief Minister Chouhan pledged support to the initiative and lauded the humanitarian efforts of industry leaders such as Sikandar Hafeez Khan of the Reliable Group and underlined the need for corporate citizens to emulate him.
The Chief Minister along with his wife, Sadhna Singh interacted with the children and their parents present on the occasion, while Sikandar Hafeez Khan presented them with educational aides as gifts.
Chief Secretary Rakesh Sahni, Bhopal Mayor Sunil Sood and BJP leader Agha Abdul Qayyum were present on the occasion along with a host of social activists and workers, journalists and medical practitioners.
