45 peoples Killed by Avalanche in Afganistan

KABUL: At least 45 peoples were killed in the avalanche which razed 13 houses in eastern Afghan province of Nuristan, an official said.

“The incident happened in Guru and Koshan villages of Madol district in the early hours of Monday and so far 45 people including women and children have been confirmed dead,” deputy to provincial governor Qazi Mohammad Nabi Ahmadi told Xinhua.

He also said that casualties could go up as the rescue operations are going on. An Afghan official said that 50 peoples had been killed when snow avalanche hit neighboring Badakhshan province earlier this month.

Afghanistan has been receiving heavy snow falls since last month. 40 peoples have been killed due to heavy snowfalls in mountainous Badakhshan province last month while more than 12 are died in Kabul due to freezing weather.
