Confer Bharat Ratna to Sachin, Demands Maharashtra Govt

The Maharashtra government is going to appeal to the Centre that legendary cricketer Sachin Tendulkar, who hit an unprecedented double tone in ODI history against South Africa, should be conferred the country’s highest civilian award Bharat Ratna, reported PTI.

“We will ask the central government to award Bharat Ratna to Sachin, who has mesmerised cricket lovers the world over,” Deputy Chief Minister Chhagan Bhujbal was quoted as saying.

“Even cricketers around the globe are saying Sachin has attained a stature higher than that of legendary Sir Don Bradman,” Bhujbal was quoted as saying while talking to reporters.

The state government has also proposed to establish a museum devoted to Sachin, said report.

“The museum will showcase the glorious life and career of the great batsman and will serve as an inspiration to the young generation,” Bhujbal was quoted as saying.

Sachin became the first cricketer to cross the 200-run mark in one-day internationals.
