Plant trees, earn incentive, says CM

People who plant fruit-bearing, timber, non-timber and medicinal plants will get incentive money, Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel said on Sunday.

He was launching the Chief Minister Tree Plantation Promotion Scheme statewide through a virtual programme here.

He said the scheme will help beautify the environment and also provide economic support to villagers and farmers.

He said the scheme provides for giving incentive money to those planting fruit-bearing, timber, non-timber and medicinal plants, an official communication said.

Forest Minister Mohammad Akbar said the tree plantation scheme will prove to be revolutionary. He said farmers will not need to take permission to fell the trees planted in their fields. Only the department has to be informed.

On this occasion, many farmers talked about going for fruit trees instead of paddy, the statement said.

Usha Patel, President, District Panchayat Mahasamund, urged the Chief Minister to make available fruit plants of good variety to the farmers.
