Great temple to be built in Chandkhuri, birthplace of Maa Kaushalya: Baghel

Construction of a magnificent temple will begin soon at Chandkhuri, the birthplace of Mata Kaushalya near Raipur, Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel announced on Wednesday as he prayed at the ancient temple along with his family.

The Chief Minister said the original form of the Mata Kaushalya temple will be preserved while beautifying its premises, and proper facilities will be developed for the devotees. Construction will start in the third week of August.

The Chhattisgarh government is developing important locations on Ram Van Gaman Path as tourist spots. The ‘bhumi-pujan’ for Mata Kaushalya temple was done on December 22. Included in the temple construction are electrification, pond beautification and parking.

Baghel described Chhattisgarh as the maternal home of Lord Ram, who he said spent a significant amount of time of his exile in the state.

He planted saplings of ‘bel’ and ‘mahua’ at the temple premise along with his wife. Saplings of amla, peepal, amrud and karanj were also planted. On Baghel’s instructions, bamboo tree guards made by the Serikhedi women self-help group were put up around the saplings.

In Treta Yug, Chhattisgarh was known as Dakshin Kosal and Dandkaranya. Lord Ram travelled from north India to Chhattisgarh and spent nearly four months at various places before moving to south India.

The Lord is said to have entered Chhattisgarh from Harchauka Sitamadi via Gawai river of Korea district. He finally reached Ramaram in Sukma district before entering south India.

The government is developing Ram Van Gaman Path as a tourist destination. Baghel said beautification works worth nearly Rs 15 crore are being done in Chandkhuri.

In the first phase, nine places will be developed including Sitamadi-Harchauka (Korea), Ramgarh (Ambikapur), Shivrinarayan (Janjgir-Champa), Turturiya (Balodabazar), Chandkhuri (Raipur), Rajim (Gariband), Sihava-Saptrishi Ashram (Dhamtari), Jagdalpur (Bastar) and Ramaram (Sukma).

The Chief Minister told the officials to build a bridge on the pond, along with circular path, a well-equipped ‘dharamshala’ and toilets. He also wanted branches of a nationalized bank in Chandkhuri.

In his address to the villagers, Baghel spoke about Gauthan and Godhan Nyay Yojana along with other facilities available in the village.

Urban Administration Minister Dr Shiv Kumar Daharia, Janpad Panchayat Aarang President Khilesh Dewangan, Gram Panchayat Chandkhuri Sarpanch Malti Dheewar and Kaushalya Mata Samiti President Devendra Verma were present.
