MP honey-trap scandal: Chief Minister Kamal Nath removes Sanjeev Shami as SIT chief

The move is seen as an attempt to scuttle the investigations into the murky honey trap scam that involves top bureaucrats and politicians of the state: Report

Bhopal: Bowing to pressure from his aides and the top bureaucracy of the state, Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Kamal Nath on late on Tuesday evening removed Sanjeev Shami as the head of the Special Investigative Team that was formed to investigate the murky honey trap case, said a report carried by India Today.
Known for his impeccable record and integrity, Sanjeev Shami will now be replaced by Rajendra Kumar who will now head the SIT and will be assisted by Milind Kanaskar and Ruchi Wardhan as members.
The move is seen as an attempt to scuttle the investigations into the murky honey trap scam that involves top bureaucrats and politicians of the state.
It may be recalled that the state police on September 18 had arrested five women and one man for allegedly blackmailing top bureaucrats and politicians after discreetly recording their sexual escapades.
The top advisors of Kamal Nath had initially pushed for Special DG cyber security, Purushottam Sharma, for the position of SIT chief, but the move was scuttled after reports that Sharma was himself associated with the five arrested women in some form.
Purushotam Sharma was also removed from the post of the cyber chief and has now been posted as director prosecution.
According to sources, Kamal Nath, by removing Sanjeev Shami as SIT chief, has tried to bring the investigations under his direct control.
