TN Assembly By Polls Peaceful

Some 70-74 percent voters ventured out to cast their franchise as Vandavasi and Tiruchendur assembly segments in Tamil Nadu witnessed by-polls on Saturday.

Election Commission officials said that polling was peaceful with Vandavasi recording a voter turnout of 74 percent while a slightly lower 70 per cent voting was recorded in Tiruchendur.

With the by-polls presenting the backdrop for a tough three cornered contest between the DMK, the AIADMK and the DMDK, poll officials decided to match images of the voters captured on web cameras installed inside the poll booths with those stored in Election Commission servers.

39 contestants were in the poll contest when counting takes place on Dec 23.
