Move over Karnataka, ‘Lotus’ could be blooming in Madhya Pradesh; Congress dismisses speculation

There are murmurs in Madhya Pradesh that the BJP could be trying to lure the Congress MLAs

Bhopal: Amid the ongoing political crisis in Karnataka wherein the Congress-JD(S) government is facing the threat of its MLAs switching over to the BJP,
similar reports are coming from Madhya Pradesh. There are murmurs in Madhya Pradesh that the BJP, which had lost the recent Assembly Elections, could
be trying to lure the Congress MLAs.
In the MP election results, the Congress had won 114 seats while the BJP had finished with 109 out of the total 230. Chief Minister Kamal Nath enlisted the
support of four Independents, two BSP MLAs and one SP legislator to cross the majority mark of 116 and form the government.
The Congress believes the BJP could make a real push in Madhya Pradesh where the seat difference between the two parties is not much.
Commenting on the speculation, CM Kamal Nath said the BJP should instead be focussing on protecting “its own house”.
“The BJP may be trying to lure MLAs but I have faith in all Congress legislators and MLAs of other parties supporting us. Let me tell the BJP, do not worry
about Congress, you better protect your own house first,” the Madhya Pradesh CM said on Tuesday, as per a report in The Times of India.
State minister PC Sharma on Wednesday alleged the BJP was indulging in horse-trading.
“They have gone berserk after losing three states. Lok Sabha elections are coming up. If they lose, they’ll stay out for a long time. They’re trying horse
trading even in Madhya Pradesh. It’s MP, all those with the Congress are standing with them, be it SP, BSP or independent,” Sharma was quoted as saying
by ANI.
