Amounts to be deposited directly in MNREGA labourers’ bank accounts

Bhopal: Process to link District Cooperative Banks in Madhya Pradesh with NEFT has been completed. As a result, amounts of wages will now be directly deposited in bank accounts of MNREGA labourers. Earlier, such payments were deposited in accounts of District Cooperative Banks electronically through e-FMS. This system was causing delay in payments. Under efforts for financial inclusion, the state government has removed this delay now. This new system will also ensure prompt payment of assistance amounts to beneficiaries of social security schemes through Cooperative Banks.

It is noteworthy that successful experiment of payment to MNREGA labourers’ wages directly in their bank accounts in Cooperative Banks through e-FMS has been done in Sehore district. Panchayats, Rural Development and Social Justice Department has issued necessary directives and guidelines to all district collectors in the state regarding the new system, which is going to be implemented throughout Madhya Pradesh. IFS codes have been released to cooperative banks, which in turn have allotted new 12-digit bank account numbers in new series to all beneficiaries. Cooperative banks are informing Gram Panchayats about new bank accounts of beneficiaries. The new numbers are also being registered in beneficiaries’ database under MNREGA and Samagra Social Security Mission.
