Sarfaraz Ahmed’s act during 2nd ODI against Sri Lanka reminds fans of MS Dhoni

The 3-match ODI series between Pakistan and Sri Lanka saw Sarfaraz Ahmed reach a new milestone as he became the second wicket-keeper in cricket history, after MS Dhoni, to captain his side in 50 ODI games. Although that wasn’t the only instance in the second ODI where Sarfaraz was used in the same bracket as Dhoni.

During the match at Karachi’s National Stadium, Sarfaraz was spotted helping Sri Lanka’s Shehan Jayasuriya during the tough chase as the latter started to experience cramps in his hamstring. Jayasuriya had forged a 177-run partnership with Dasun Shanaka in the middle to keep the Lanka’s hopes of chasing 307 alive. However, some fitness issues kept coming in the way.

In the hot and humid conditions at the venue, Jayasuriya was spotted holding his hamstring as he went down on the ground in the 34th over. Seeing him struggle, Sarfaraz came to the batsman and helped him with the hamstring trouble. Shehan soon got up and resumed his innings.

Earlier, former India captain MS Dhoni was also spotted helping South Africa’s Faf du Plessis with a similar hamstring complaint on the pitch. The incident took place in Mumbai during South Africa’s tour of India in 2015.

Seeing Sarfaraz do something similar, cricket fans couldn’t help up remember the Dhoni-Du Plessis incident.

As for the result of the series, Pakistan won the third and final match at the National Stadium on Wednesday too in order to welcome international cricket’s return in the country in style.
